So it's been about a year since I uploaded art here, and almost 4 years since I updated a journal. I haven't stopped drawing, but my goals and focus have shifted a lot and I've finally reached a point in my life where there's a chance for me to balance my personal projects with my professional ones. I've decided not to pursue a career in art. I'm still up to my eyes in the video game industry and it's amazing and exactly where I'd like to be. Turns out that I'm not cut out for professional art - at least not right now - which I've finally allowed myself to be okay with. That said, I've had more time to decide what type of hobbyist I'd like t

The game I've been working on for the last five months can be downloaded at www.classyraptorstudio.com (Windows only).  You can also watch the presentation here http://www.youtube.com/user/SanguineGame#p/u/0/Xl6rshMD-TI .  The first part is mostly mandatory powerpoint presentation fluff...gameplay starts sometime in part 2. I uh...did a lot of models and textures for the jungle, and a lot of models and a few textures here and there for the interior parts.  I also did the sword model/texture, some level layout, pinup skank, and Classy Raptor Logo.  And a few other things here and there. : > My boyfriend did the two enemies and some animation

So I totally met the lead technical artist from Naughty Dog and watched him build a level using Uncharted 2 assets and I totally had dinner with him and a few other friends before he had to fly back to Santa Monica to keep doing what those awesome Naughty Dog people do. IT WAS SO AWESOME I HAD TO GUSH ABOUT IT SOMEWHERE, can't do it on Facebook because he asked us to add him as a friend on there XDDD  but man that was cool.  I want a job at Naughty Dog sooo bad ;-; Someday.... I've been busy doing 3D stuff lately, I'll post some of it...eventually... I upgraded pretty much everything recently too...Maya 2011, Photoshop CS5, Intuos 4 tablet

So funny that I think back, I was so involved in this whole dA world as a teenager, only 13-14 when I first started trying to draw stuff and show the "world". Spend all day just looking at cool ass drawings that I one day would hope to imitate in quality and recognition. I met great characters, profiles, aliases, on this site that still to this day have molded my whole demeanor and ideologies. But for the longest, it was all just child's play in my mind. Even now I look at my post from just a few years ago to you and feel like I was still a child.

I've just read your last journal and realize just how real these characters were, that behind these fake personas were real people living real lives. And to see that even you, still come back to this imaginary place called DA gives me a great sense of joy that I'm not the only one who still likes to relive for a moment what this thing use to be to me. That just because we now have lives much more occupied  or less wondrous, that you still have time to go back and see how you've found your passions and that you never felt restricted to stay in one lane your whole life.

Trust me, I know how you feel when you say "
my goals and focus have shifted a lot and I've finally reached a point in my life where there's a chance for me to balance my personal projects with my professional ones. ", it happens to me now quite too often. And I look at the button where it says how long we've been deviants for, and it makes me feel not older or whimsical about having my focus shift so regularly as I grow, it just makes me feel wiser. To really see that change isn't just in your mind that its really happening as we age and that so will our muses, both you and I as creatives. That even if it's not how you imagined it as a young person that everything is going to turn out alright in terms of our creativity. That creation never dies.

I don't know why I'm blathering this to you but I feel you would understand. I really can't show you how much you've changed my life no matter how insignificant it may seem to you, but I just wanted to take my time to thank you. For being creative. For being yourself.  Keep finding your passions, I now recognize that even when I don't notice it, I will be too.

Happy New Years Rae.

Your friend - Tony.
It's so awesome to hear from you Tony!! Your whole comment made me emotional haha; I feel like I've been a jerk to quite a lot of people in the past (including you) but to hear that something I did helped you really means a lot. I've learned and grown from you over the years too, especially around the time I last heard from you and you said you were making music. I felt like I just *had* to continue down the path I was going, but seeing others embrace change really motivated me to find out what I wanted. I have you to thank for that too <3

It's always refreshing to come back to dA, I'm glad I'm not the only one who does. We're all getting wiser with time, but I hope that doesn't mean that we're necessarily getting older. Just more experienced :D

How have you been lately? It sounds like you're looking for that personal and professional balance too. It's tricky but since we're both here talking like this we must be doing something right! I definitely don't say it enough but I think back on the connections I made here from time to time, and when we argued about art and other things we were passionate about. It was a lot of fun! You sound like you're doing really well and it's awesome to hear that. Happy new years to you too!
Ha, glad it was well received. Didn't want to come off with a creepy vibe (I mean seriously I look at it now its like I wrote a damn essay xD) Still a fool I suppose :P

To be honest I think I wrote that whole shpeel for myself, just really felt like I had to express to myself that I'm on the right path with this music thing, but to someone I felt I could trust with these words. I'm doing fine now I suppose, been moving from NY to ma to Florida to PA and back working stupid dead end jobs and what not haven't really had the chance to sit down with my thoughts and work on things, now that I'm somewhat more stable I've been investing on home studio equipment, just tryna figure ways to make it work.

I'm glad your doing well too, sounds like your swamped with your job. Hey, at least you get to make video games for a living. Not many people get to have the luxury of doing something they actually like to do to make ends meet. Excuse the language but that's fuckin awesome. What exactly do you do btw? Anyways lemme stop myself before this becomes a fuckin storybook xP Keep in touch, it's nice to check in yanno?
Thank you so much for letting me add your artwork to my group SailorSenshi-2013!
Aww no problem! Thank you for adding it! :D
You are very welcome!
